FAQs
How do I know how well my child is doing in school?
We have three formal parents evenings throughout the year which you will be invited to attend. You can speak to your child’s Class Teacher at the end of the school day or by prior appointment. We ask that you wait until the teacher has dismissed all of the children to ensure safeguarding procedures are adhered to as much as possible. Any member of the Senior Leadership Team will discuss your concerns.
What can I do to support my child's learning?
Throughout your child’s time at Marsh Hill, regular Parent Workshops will be held to help you to understand the way that pupils are being taught phonics, reading, writing and maths skills. We also offer workshops in e-safety and assessment.
If you feel that you would like to discuss helping your child at home, then please speak with your child’s Class Teacher, who will be happy to share ideas and strategies with you.
What before and after school care do you provide?
We offer a Breakfast Club for all children which starts at 8:10am. This is at a cost of £1.30 per day and children have a choice of fruit juice, a warm drink, cereals and toast. We have sporting activities daily including golf, football, bench ball, hockey etc. These sessions are delivered by our Sports Coach. All of the above are free to pupils who are entitled to free school meals or who have received free school meals in the last 6 years.
Our After School Clubs are extensive and we cater for up to 30 pupils across a range of activities: many of them are provided free of charge. The access to these clubs is dependent on age and availability.
How much homework will my child receive?
All children are given homework on a weekly basis. It may be a Maths or English activity that needs to be completed in their homework books or it may be an activity that has been set online, using one of the educational websites that we subscribe to.
In addition to Maths and English homework, children are also expected to read at home with an adult, using the book provided by the class teacher. Children will have a library book each week as well. The pupil's Reading Journal must be updated weekly by the parents.
I want to take my child on holiday during term time, would I be allowed?
Following government advice, the school has a strict absence in term time policy: unless the circumstances are extreme, pupils will not be granted permission to go on holiday. Holidays taken in term time that have not been sanctioned by the Headteacher will be registered as an unauthorised absence on your child’s attendance record. If the length of absence is extensive we cannot guarantee your child’s place. Long term absences affect children in a number of ways: If children do not attend school regularly they often find it difficult to catch up. In addition, poor attendance affects a child’s ability to form and keep friendships; a vital part of growing up.
