Year 6
6M - Miss Morrison 6H - Miss Hodge
Teaching Assistant: Miss Bradbury
Welcome to Year 6’s class page. Undoubtedly, Year 6 is the best year of primary school and we have so much to look forward to! We have lots of fun and exciting things planned incuding, school trips, the residential visit, VR headset experiences and more. Any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We are looking forward to a great year ahead!
Core subjects
We follow the whole class ‘Close reading’ approach where children are immersed in a text throughout the course of the week whilst focusing on a key reading skill. In writing, children learn the skills they need to produce their own range of independent writing pieces such as stories and non-chronological reports. In maths, children continue to build upon and reinforce previous learning focusing on mental arithmetic and problem solving.
Foundation subjects
This year, children will be taught a vatiety of topics in the afternoon sessions such as history, geography, art, DT computing, PE, Spanish and music. They will learn about what life was like for the ancient Mayan people, create ‘Stella’ sculptures out of clay and create their own mechanical fairground rides!
Important information
Home work is set every Friday on ‘Google classroom’ and ‘Purple Mash’. Paper copies of weekly spelling words are sent home alongside a reading book every Friday. Please ensure your child reads three times each week and signed reading records are returned to school.
PE is on a FRIDAY for year 6. Please ensure the correct kit is worn.
SATs
SATs week will begin on Monday 10th May 2027. We will be doing lots of work in school to prepare your child and will provide lots of home learning opportunities throughout the year. Look out for Parent/Carer meetings with more information about how to best support your child in the coming months.
